The word call is a noun.  Call means (1) the option to buy a given stock (or stock index or commodity future) at a given price before a given date, (2) (sports) the decision made by an umpire or referee, (3) brief visit in an official or professional capacity, (4) a brief social visit, (5) a telephone connection, (6) an instruction that interrupts the program being executed, (7) the characteristic sound produced by a bird, (8) a loud utterance; often in protest or opposition, (9) a request, (10) a demand especially in the phrase "the call of duty", (11) a demand for a show of hands in a card game, (12) a demand by a broker that a customer deposit enough to bring his margin up to the minimum requirement.  Call is also a verb that means (1) rouse somebody from sleep with a call, (2) consider or regard as being, (3) challenge the sincerity or truthfulness of, (4) utter in a loud voice or announce, (5) order, summon, or request for a specific duty or activity, work, role, (6) order or request or give a command for, (7) lure by imitating the characteristic call of an animal, (8) get or try to get into communication (with someone) by telephone, (9) order, request, or command to come, (10) declare in the capacity of an umpire or referee, (11) challenge (somebody) to make good on a statement; charge with or censure for an offense, (12) require the presentation of for redemption before maturation, (13) utter a sudden loud cry, (14) make a prediction about; tell in advance, (15) ascribe a quality to or give a name of a common noun that reflects a quality, (16) utter a characteristic note or cry, (17) assign a specified, proper name to, (18) send a message or attempt to reach someone by radio, phone, etc.; make a signal to in order to transmit a message, (19) read aloud to check for omissions or absentees, (20) indicate a decision in regard to, (21) give the calls (to the dancers) for a square dance, (22) make a demand, as for a card or a suit or a show of hands, (23) demand payment of (a loan), (24) call a meeting; invite or command to meet, (25) pay a brief visit, (26) make a stop in a harbour, (27) greet, as with a prescribed form, title, or name, (28) stop or postpone because of adverse conditions, such as bad weather.
